Saturday Night!

The week of song, music and dance ended last night to a wonderful show full of laughter, music, dance, song and teamwork. The smiles of all participants and audience members after the show told the whole story. As we watched the show unfold...the thought that this was all done in one week with a group of kids that for the most part, didn't know each other before Sunday speaks volumes for the hard work and dedication put forth by all involved.

Nancy shared with me a cute story that happened before the show. As our Milford kids were back stage they warmed up together as they always do before all the choir and stage productions.  Someone mentioned "Hey you guys are so legit." Our kids said back.."Well we are an actual show choir." I love that.

Special thanks to Mrs. Lambrecht for giving the guidance and leadership, Sue Neamos for being my partner in crime all week, the parents for understanding that the arts are important and the kids who were the greatest group of kids to share a week with. You guys are all stars!

Friday Night

The kids worked their tails off getting thru all the music and dances. It really is coming together nicely.

Friday Day Practice

We are "Time Warping" through this week and saturday is quickly approaching. I don't know about the kids but I think the two Sue's are pooped! Illness, sore feet, strained muscles are creeping in but it doesn't seem to have dampened the spirit of the week!

Thursday Evening

Tonight the kids were back at practice at 7 pm this evening continuing on with tryouts, dancing and song. The kids worked hard and as I peeked in this evening in their rooms they were still practicing their dances and songs. They are back at it tomorrow morning at 9am!

Thursday First Practice

Dancing and singing..singing and dancing. These kids are working hard!

During their breaks, they eat..unwind and talk about the days trials and tribulations. Sometimes...they make faces intentionally, while other times...it is just the click of the camera. Either way we enjoy the entertainment factor!

Wednesday

The kids were sooo busy today learning new dances and fine tuning their songs. After a few nights of late nighters and all day dancing a singing, it is a little quieter than usual around here. Most of the kids stayed in and ate dinner while watching movies. I snuck in to one room to give you a little peek.

Swing, Swing, Swing on Tuesday

This afternoon was another full day for the kids. We are sad to report that Kaitlyn did not get the opportunity to perform her solo at the show but she performed like a champ and gave up her lunch to do so. Good job Kaitlyn!


Singing and dancing...Macomb Show Choir camp. Today when I walked into the Performing Center the kids were learning two dances. Man....they are working hard!

It is really fun to see the enthusiasm everyone has for the dancing. Some people may not be trained dancers but their love for being on the stage shines through.

Tuesday Morning

We have happy news and silliness today.
First the happy news the adorable and talented Ms. Kaitlyn Weickel got a call back today for her solo. We know you will rock it Kaitlyn!

Last night it seems the kids had more energy and stayed up later--making this morning a bit slower than normal and maybe a bit sillier. Arriving at Macomb they found the doors locked and waiting patiently in the hall ;-).

I think the lack of sleep got to them and the silliness crept in.

They even recruited other campers to join in on this silliness.

Then it seemed the directors had some silly looks for them all in the name of teaching..at least it looked silly from where I sat!

We are bracing for the possibility of storms today. We hope to load the van up with kids still in the search  of any last minute costume needs and will be heading over to the Salvation Army--which is just a block from the hotel.  If the weather looks iffy..we have a back up plan of tomorrow..rest assured we are doing our best to see that your kids are aware of the impending storm!

Monday Evening

The afternoon ended pretty much like the day began, with a lot of energy and music! 
Meghan Griesbeck, Rachel Carreri, Nancy Boyd and Kaitlyn Weickel all braved the judges and tried out for solos for the show on saturday night. They only had 16 bars to impress the judges. Call backs will be announced tomorrow. Cross your fingers and send them your good luck. No matter what they are winners in our eyes for putting themselves out there and trying. Way to go girls!


This evening the kids scattered in a lot of directions; shopping for the new costume announced today, taking a swim at the Hilton, practicing for solos in the group numbers or trying out the latest dance steps in preparation for another big day tomorrow. As we speak, a large group of them headed over Applebees for a little bedtime snack and fun with friends. 


Here is hoping tomorrow is as awesome as today was and the learning continues!

Day Two Morning

8:00 am everyone eagerly gathered for breakfast and to start the day (Eagerly has been added by the author knowing nobody will believe a teenager eagerly gets up this early on a summer day..but knows in their hearts they were eager!)

After breakfast the students spent the whole morning singing and breaking up into their smaller  group. Listening to the music this morning, I can tell you the pieces are very fun, energetic, thought provoking and  nostalgic. I think Saturday night will be very grand indeed!

Day One

Family and friends maneuvered their cars through the construction zones that peppered M-59 to the final destination of Macomb Community College and Show Choir Camp 2011. A large group of students are dedicating a week of their summer to work with their classmates on new songs and dances.

After a long day of getting settled at the hotel and attending the camp, the students met in the hallway and not only talked about their experiences but also took some time to poke some fun at their teacher Mrs. Lambrecht.

The perfect way to end the day a long swim in the pool.
